I have loved art throughout my life. I have been more a right brain person from child hood. Infact my preschool teacher 30 years back wrote a note to my mom saying am a budding artist help her develop her interest. My parents were happy about it but as any parent would do they did get me into a lot of art competitions and let me pursue it as a hobby which finally faded away during the later years of my education because the focus was to get a good degree and a job with a salary. I did join architecture as it was something very relatable to my creative side and I could actually build on that which I am thankful for as I learnt a lot in those 5 years in college. It opened up a very different world of people for me which inspired me even more. To be honest, it was in the past year that my art has been with me through all my explorations I can say that as a matter of fact sketching and doodling to cartooning teachers in school was something of a pastime for me during college days and I loved the reaction people had to it. Until that point I never really thought of my work as something someone work love to own but once I started to paint I was approached by a community called paint a thousand lives which is based in California. I still collaborate with them to do a lot of workshops for adults. I started my Etsy shop six months ago in collaboration with my brother and it helped my art reach a global audience. I am also planning other ventures for the future.
I can spend hours doing this and it’s a beautiful lucky thing to be able to do something you love that also you can sell as long as it does not stress you. Recently I have noticed a lot of artists having an art block/ taking a break for social media. All of us need to step back but I think it is because all of us have this pressure to keep up! Now sometimes we need to step back and look at what we have done and allow you to explore freely without having to think about how to exhibit it to the world.
Of course my favourite medium is watercolours. I love to find myself a quite place with all my colours my palette my water and sit and enjoy the whole process. Everything about watercolours is therapeutic. I find myself going into my own world when I start to paint. Even the simple act of dipping the brush into water and swirling it and letting the water do the magic of blending the colours is something I never get bored of. Its like watching waves at the beach. Whether you are a child or you are 60, everytime we see the waves crashing on the shore it brings an joy inside of you and a certain spark of happiness.
I love a quiet corner by the window and a lot of day lights a couple of plants a cup of tea and my colours. Tha is my favourite place to be right now.
I have noticed that a lot of young people are using art as a medium to communicate creatively. Art has become a way of expressing your thoughts. A lot of young people are using it as their voice to reach out to a millions of people. It is celebrating pluralism and standing up for what is right. There can’t be a better medium to it is ssomething that everyone is realizing. That which is your own can be more appealing than the ones imitate.
